RPW Exclusive: Chase Elliott Survives Talladega; Wins Cup Event Sunday

Column By: JESSY MILLER / RPW – TALLADEGA, AL – It may be Earnhardt Country, but the Dawsonville Elliott siren was wailing after Sunday’s checkered flag.

While Chase Elliott was holding off the field, Kyle Larson was taking a tumble down the front stretch, pulling the yellow flag. The race finished under yellow, with Elliott still in the lead. Every driver involved in wrecks Sunday afternoon was okay and able to walk on their own to the ambulances.

Elliott’s victory broke Ford’s streak of seven straight race wins in Talladega Cup races, six of the last nine races in Talladega belonged to Team Penske. It seemed that a Penske car would make a reappearance in Victory Lane, but then Brad Keselowski got turned around on his way into the pits (performing a beautiful pit stop) and Joey Logano lost his many lap lead and Ryan Blaney was caught up in the last wreck. Elliott was in the right time at the right place to take over at the end.

The No. 9 team now sits 6th in points with their first win of the year. Can Elliott make it two in a row next weekend in Dover? Tune in to find out!
