RPW Column: NASCAR Postpones Martinsville Speedway Race Weekend In May

Column By: JOHN DOUGLAS / RPW – DAYTONA, BEACH, FL – After weeks of rescheduled races and the hope of returning to races in early May, it seems we will wait just a bit longer to see the stars and cars of NASCAR’s Cup Series return to action.

In a statement released by NASCAR, the spring Martinsville race weekend, May 8-9th, was announced postponed as social distancing and crowd gathering limitations are still in effect due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Statement by NASCAR:

“NASCAR is postponing the scheduled events on May 8-9 at Martinsville Speedway. Our intention remains to run all 36 races, with a potential return to racing without fans in attendance in May at a date and location to be determined. The health and safety of our competitors, employees, fans, and the communities in which we run continues to be our top priority. We will continue to consult with health experts and local, state and federal officials as we assess future scheduling options.”
