OSCAAR Mods To Chase Coveted Trophy In Flamboro Speedway’s Frostoberfest In 2020

Story By: ASHLEY MCCUBBIN / OSCAAR – MILGROVE, ONT – For those who are a fan of the open-wheel modifieds, you will get to witness them fighting for a one-of-a-kind prized trophy at Flamboro Speedway this season.

London Recreational Racing’s Frostoberfest, slated for October 3 2020 at Flamboro Speedway, will see the Queenston Chevrolet Buick GMC OSCAAR Modifieds take part in the hunt for the first time.

Through the years, LRR’s Mike Schmidt has gotten Hop Issaluk and George Noah to hand-craft a special trophy to be given away one of soap stones. In the past years, it has been in the shape of an igloo, with it being changed to a Inukshuk carving for this past season.

The OSCAAR Modifieds visited the 1/3 mile on a couple different occasions this past season, with close battles for positions each time, including a couple battles for the win coming down to the final laps. Eventual series champion A.J. Emms scored a pair of wins, while it was Andy Kamrath taking home the race victory in October.

Now the opportunity to chase after the unique trophy is something that is not lost on the open-wheel drivers, in knowing that they have a chance to put their name in the history books.

They will be joined in the hunt by the Mini Stocks, which had over 30 cars just try and qualify for the event in 2019. Ultimately, following close racing and drama in both twin 50-lap features, it came down a tie-breaker between Karl Sault and Kamrath, with Sault getting the nod for the winning the first feature. Through the past nine years, there has been seven different winners, with Kamrath and Dave Bailey the only to repeat the feat.

This reveal of details surrounding Frostoberfest follows the announcement that the APC Auto Parts United Late Models of Ontario Tour will visit Flamboro Speedway on two occasions in 2020. It is promising to be an action-packed season, with several more details to be rolled out in the coming months leading up to the season opener.
